A short post today ...........whats that, do I hearing cheering and whooping in the wings ! Shame on you !! Am feeling a little under the weather and really should be " under the doctor "( this was a phrase that was used a lot when I was a young gal ! ) It seems that bloggers bum has returned with a vengeance , too much sitting in front of my Mac is causing me a little discomfort in the back region , maybe I should call it bloggers back then !
Anways..............after a longgggggggg absence I am finally entering a little something into one of my favourite challenges, Just for Fun, that trio of craftyliciousness have this week as their theme " Medieval " !!!! Von the jamming queen is the culprit what a fertile imagination she has, and I will be asking her to call upon it when she sees my box !! So let me show you what I mean ....
Well this I suppose could be construed as " Asian " but I'm asking you all to use every ounce your your imagination and move it on over to the Medieval category ! It looks like a card but it is in fact a box with a glass top which was a real so and so to photo. This was the only shot I could get that didn't have my gorgeousness reflected in it ! For the base I used magic gold card ( well that's what it called its self on the package ) I stamped the card with my favourite SU text stamp and then embossed with clear embossing powder, such a waste as you cant see it ! I then inked up my Harlequin embossing folder ( that's the medieval part ) with black Stazon ink and passed it through the Big Shot. For the dragon I used for the first time this Dreamweaver stencil and coloured it using gilding flakes.........never again, I thought glitter was bad this is far worse it actually floats !!! normal breathing just transfers these little flakes to the other side of the room so I had to hold my breath while I was making this portion of the card . The background is filled in with black glitter and the overall image is KITSCH AS CAN BE !!!!!. the black porcelain flowers just arrived yesterday all the way from Hong Kong !! and add to the overall kitschyness of the box. One thing is for sure I will never, ever be using gilding flakes in the near future, that coupled with glitter makes for one big mess , two blingy mutts and one cranky crafter. It also took me three attempts to make the image so there is an abundance of the stuff still hiding in all manner of crevices in the crafting cave !
So much for the short post ! Just writing about it and reliving it has given me a headache ! Do pop over and visit the gorgeous girls at Just for Fun they have some wonderful pieces of inspirational art to drool over and inspire us with.
Right am of for a lie down, the boss has given me the day off to rest and recuperate so am away to do just that.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Marie

oh wow ... this is fabulous .. i bet in real life those gilding flakes are gorgeous .. i was going to have a go with them.. but after reading your post don't think i am fit to use them lol.. they will be all over ! especially with my sneezing at the moment lol.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful project .. hope your back feels easier soon
Lisax
This is beautiful!! Forget the breathing - it's over-rated lol. Have you tried the Indigo blu flitter glue for use with your gilding flakes, I know it wouldn't have worked for this lovely piece, but for gilding stamped images it's brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend x
Asian or medieval - it's beautiful!! And those flowers ..... wow!! I know what you mean about gilding flakes!! I only use mine now and then for that reason!! Cxx
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I've got two pots of (unopened) gilding flakes - think I'll see if I can just give them away! Have to say though, the dragon looks fab. Take it easy, hope the back eases up soon! Suze xx

Wow.........you are so creative. I did think first..chinese "Year of the Dragon" But I can also see the medieval, very cool:)
ReplyDeleteIt was worth the crankeness gorgeous box. Big fan of Dreamweaver stencils, usually with Dreamweaver embossing paste. Love the details of the Dragon, I've not tried gilding flakes with a stencil but with such a large surface to gild can see it would drive you sane!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you again at Just for Fun XOXO Zoe
Great project, but I think you've put me off trying gilding flakes now. I'm just not good enough holding my breath for that long ;) Hope you recover soon!
ReplyDeletea very opulent box...hope the back eases for you soon x

ReplyDeleteThis is stunning (with a capital S.
Gilding flakes are certainly pesky little things and as for the Blingy mutts, maybe they like their little makeover (or should that be a Blingover?!!)

ReplyDeleteWow Marie this is just stunning. It even got a "Blimey" from my husband when I showed it to him, which is huge praise on his part! I have to admit every time I use guilding flakes I end up covered in them, a complete nightmare.

How cool, your dragon looks fabulous. Wonderful texture.
ReplyDeleteHiya Marie. Wow, this looks brilliant! I love how the dragon has turned out with the gilding flakes, and you most certainly are the queen of embossing. Your posts do make me smile - my daughter put the hairdryer on, not so long ago, while I had the lid off the gilding flakes - not such a good look for the corner of the bedroom! Maria x

ReplyDeleteWell! I don't know how you do it, Marie! No wonder you have to go lie down (sorry about your back, darling ... YUK). The dragon is mind blowing (it's your work that causes me not to be able to think straight) ... I have no idea how you got all those little lines (scales) in there ... the flowers from HK are WOWERS! I'm going to pick up my CAMERA now ... it's HERE! I have an awe struck look on my face which will be misinterpreted as 'stunned'. HA! :o) Take care of yourself .. be well. xoDonna

Was St George a fit for this period of time? I think so. Therefore I think this is Medieval. This is beautiful Marie, and it is so nice to have you doing a JFF challenge again.
ReplyDeleteHugs Neet xx
Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHope you soon recover from sitting too much it sounds very painful

ReplyDeleteOh (((sigh))) your box is so rich and fabulous, its like something bought back from the Crusades! (wrong Country but they took a wrong turn!). I love it - hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! Love the texture... crazy cool. And you cracked me up writing about getting a headache as you wrote the post. Hope it's gone by now!
ReplyDeleteOh you do make me laugh Marie! Anyway - not oriental at all then? Not even with the year of the dragon...? Absolutely not! Medieval it is then and I can just see dear old St George riding in to despatch the gold-flakey dragon as we speak! It's the most gorgeous box even if it did cause chaos in the crafting cave! Vicky x
